Sylva Weaver Rowland, 83, fashion editor of the Los Angeles Times in the 1930s, died Jan. 21 in a Pasadena convalescent hospital.
She was the widow of John Rowland, a member of the family that inherited the land grant that today is Rowland Heights, and the daughter of Sylvester L. Weaver Sr., the former Chamber of Commerce president credited with extending the railroad to what is now Los Angeles Harbor.
Her survivors include a brother, Sylvester L. (Pat) Weaver, the former president of NBC; a sister and several nieces and nephews, among them the actress Sigourney Weaver. Her brother, Winstead (Doodles) Weaver, a comedian and character actor formerly featured with the Spike Jones orchestra, died in 1983.
